1. Budget Hearing Schedule for proposed FY 12/13 Budget Announced
Each year, the Village holds a series of budget hearings to overview the upcoming fiscal year's proposed budget for the Village Board and any interested members of the public. The budget hearing schedule for the FY 12/13 budget will be as follows:
Monday, March 5th
6:30 p.m. – Budget Hearing #1: Executive Overview
Saturday, March 10th
1:00 p.m. – Budget Hearing #2: Proposed FY12/13 Budget Overview
Monday, March 26th
7:30 p.m. – Committee of the Whole Meeting/Budget Hearing #3: Wrap- Up

have For anyF2. Referendum on Electrical Aggregation to be held Tuesday, March 20th
As you may know, recent changes in electrical regulation by the State of Illinois have given residents the ability to purchase their electricity from another supplier besides Commonwealth Edison (ComEd). As part of those regulation changes, municipalities may also bid the cost of electricity on behalf of residents in order to achieve even greater savings. However, in order to do so, the Village must first gain public support through an advisory referendum. The Village Board recently approved placing a question on the Tuesday, March 20th primary election ballot. The Village wishes to get as much information out as possible before the referendum to give residents a fully informed review of their options prior to voting.

3. Reminder: Report Plow Damage to Public Works
If you have damage resulting from snow plowing efforts, it should be reported to the Public Works Department by calling (847) 599-6800. This will ensure that you will be placed on the restoration list. Plow restorations typically start the first week of May. The Village tries to have all restorations completed by the middle of June at the latest so the grass will have time to grow through the summer season.
4. General Primary Election to be held Tuesday, March 20th
The Illinois general primary election will be held on Tuesday, March 20th with polls opening at 6 a.m. and closing at 7 p.m. If you cannot vote on Election Day, there are a number of resources available to you including early voting, voting by mail and others. 5. March Special Events at Gurnee Park District
Gurnee Park District will hold a variety of special events during March. Below are a few upcoming programs:
Parents' Night Out: On Saturday, March 3rd, the Park District will hold "Parents' Night Out" with programming for children 6 months to 10 years old.
Nitelite Egg Hunt: On Friday, March 23rd, the Park District will hold a Nitelite Egg Hunt from 7:45 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
Lunch with the Easter Bunny: On Saturday, March 31st, the Easter bunny will be visiting Gurnee Park District for lunch and an Easter egg hunt.'

6. Local Resources: After-Hour Pick Up at Warren-Newport Public Library
If you cannot make it to the library during its regular hours, Warren-Newport Public Library also offers the option of after-hours pick up. Simply call ahead two hours in advance of the library closing time to make arrangements. Please note that your account must be in good standing to use this service. 7. The Weekly Update: Community Development Department Selects New Permitting Software and more
The Administration Department has completed the proposed FY 12/13 budget. It is now available on the Village's website .
As a member of the Solid Waste Agency of Lake County (SWALCO), the Village is committed to promoting recycling within the community. At the Monday, February 20th meeting, the Village Board passed a resolution accepting a recent SWALCO task force plan to increase Lake County's diversion rate of solid waste from landfills to 60% by 2020. The diversion rate refers to the percentage of the total amount of refuse generated that is recycled, refused or otherwise somehow kept out of landfills. The Village currently has one of the highest rates in the County and meets most of the benchmarks but will continue investigating ways to promote recycling. In response to resident and business requests for an easier building permitting process, the Community Development Department recently issued a bid notice for a permitting software system. On February 20th, 2012, the Gurnee Village Board authorized the purchase of a Community Development software system created by The Davenport Group, LLC of Crystal Lake, IL. The new system will allow for online submittal of permit application, scheduling of inspections and payment of permit fees. Modules will also be created to assist the Village’s Code Enforcement, Business Licensing and Planning Departments. The software is expected to go live later this summer. This represents the first major overhaul of the Village’s permitting system in the last 20 plus years.
In preparation for the upcoming Insurance Services Office (ISO) field inspection, the Fire Department has recently been reviewing its automatic response agreements with neighboring communities and fire districts. These agreements specify that in the event of either a confirmed fire or a "true fire alarm" (when an alarm is detected by 911 Dispatch), each Department will dispatch an engine. This provides an additional layer of safety for residents in both responding communities. So far, amendments have been made with the City of Waukegan and Grayslake Fire Protection District to reaffirm these agreements.
The Police Department would like to remind residents and businesses that with the new Gurnee Police account on Nixle, getting crime alerts and other important information from the Department is easier than ever. Simply visit Nixle's website and create an account. Subscribed individuals can then select which organizations they wish to receive updates from and how they receive them (via text messaging, e-mail, etc.). Updates will also continue to be made through all other established channels.
As a reminder, there will be a Neighborhood Watch meeting for the neighborhood south of east of Route 41 and south of Grand Avenue on Thursday, March 8th at 7 p.m. at the Police Station.
Public Works Department:
Public Works crews began working last night and returned at 3 a.m. this morning to continue clearing roads. A total of 7.5 inches of snow fell across the Village, making this event the largest one so far this winter season.
