Gurnee, IL – At 8:48 AM on Tuesday, August 14, officers responded to a 911 call of shots fired and someone screaming in the 4200 block of Lake Park Avenue. Upon arrival, officers located a male black and a female black in the garage at 4260 Lake Park Ave. Those subjects were secured while officers searched the home for other suspects. More people were discovered inside the home but were identified as residents of the house. There was no evidence that anyone was injured in the incident.
There were believed to be three other suspects who fled prior to officers arriving. During the search for suspects, four nearby school buildings were put on lockdown, as well as the Gurnee Village Hall. The schools on lockdown were O’Plaine Elementary, Warren Township High School-O’Plaine Campus, Viking Junior High School and Gurnee Grade School. The lockdown was lifted after approximately one hour. An automated call was sent to homes and businesses nearby informing them of possibly armed and dangerous subjects in the area and to notify the police department if a suspicious subject was seen in the area.
The initial investigation indicated this incident was a targeted home invasion for drugs and money. The female in the garage was a resident of the house. The male in the garage was one of the suspects and he was taken into custody. Investigators obtained and executed a search warrant for the home. Investigators located shell casings and bullet holes from multiple shots fired inside the home. Also found in the home were a large amount of suspected cocaine, a large amount of suspected cannabis, a large amount of cash and several firearms.
The suspects still at large are described as three male blacks, 17 to 20 years of age. All were wearing black clothing. They all wore ski-type masks, one purple, the other two were black. Police dogs from the Waukegan Police Department and the Round Lake Park Police Department checked the area and tracked the suspects to a nearby location where it is believed they got into a vehicle and left the area. The Waukegan K-9 unit also assisted with the search of the house.
One of the home invasion suspects was arrested and charged as a juvenile. He is a 16 year old male from Waukegan. He was transported to the Depke Juvenile Justice Center this morning. He has been referred on charges of Aggravated Unlawful Restraint, Attempted Armed Robbery, Battery and Home Invasion. Wadley will appear for a bond hearing in Waukegan later this afternoon.
A resident of the home on Lake Park Avenue was taken into custody. Deshawn Wadley, 31, was arrested and charged with unlawful possession with intent to deliver over 900 grams of cocaine, a class X felony, unlawful Possession of over 900 grams of cocaine, a class 1 felony, unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, a class 2 felony, and unlawful possession of cannabis with intent to deliver, a class 3 felony.
