Gurnee, IL – On 9/11/12 at 3:48 AM, Officers responded to a possible burglary in progress at Timothy O’Tooles Pub, 5572 Grand Ave. The alarm company indicated a male subject in a hooded sweatshirt had entered the business. After finding no obvious signs of entry, an employee was contacted to open the business and a subsequent search of the building by officers did not yield a suspect inside but there was evidence someone had been inside the building. Taken was a small amount of cash and there was damage to a cash register drawer.
After watching security video and further investigation, it was determined that a recently hired employee with a key may be the suspect but attempts to locate the suspect were unsuccessful. Later that morning a Gurnee 911 center operator alertly heard on the radio that Waukegan police officers were checking a suspicious subject and had run the name of the suspect in the burglary. She contacted Waukegan Police and told them their subject was a suspect in a burglary in Gurnee. He was arrested and transported to the Gurnee Police Department for further investigation. The suspect cooperated with investigation.
Arrested was Brandon A. Balkom, 31, from Evanston. He is charged with burglary and criminal damage to property. He was also on parole for burglary and he is being held on a parole violation by the Illinois Department of Corrections. His bond on the new charges was set at $100,000.
