Gurnee residents can now reduce the cost to improve their home's efficiency through Energy Impact Illinois, a local program that offers low-cost and free home energy assessments, energy efficiency suggestions, financial resources and instant rebates of up to $1750.00 for upgrades to insulation and air sealing. The organization, led by an alliance between the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) and various utility companies and government agencies within the area, is funded through a U.S. Department of Energy grant and provides energy assessment services to residents, businesses, non-profit organizations and developers in the greater Chicagoland area, including Lake County.
More than 440 households in the Chicagoland region have had energy assessments performed by Energy Impact Illinois. Out of these participants, the 100 households that have completed upgrade work are estimated to each save $500 annually on their utility bills. Currently, 50 households in Gurnee and the surrounding area have had assessments performed or have one planned. Once upgraded, these households are estimated to collectively save a total of $25,000 per year on their utility bills.
