Gurnee, IL – Beginning June 28th and running through July 7th 2013, the Gurnee Police Department will be conducting additional occupant protection and impaired driver enforcement patrols.
During the July 4th holiday the Gurnee Police Department will be focusing on both impaired and unbuckled drivers. This intensified enforcement effort will focus on the late-night hours (11:00 PM through 6:00 AM) as statistics show a disproportionate number of traffic deaths occur late at night and involve an impaired driver and/or unbuckled motorist.
The Gurnee campaign is part of the statewide Independence Day “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” and “Click It or Ticket” efforts.
The additional patrols are funded by a grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The officers assigned to these patrols will have zero tolerance for traffic violations, particularly impaired driving, speeding, and the absence of safety belt and/or child seat use.
