Project Sticker Shock 2011

April is alcohol awareness month and to start it out, the Gurnee Police Department, Mayor Kristina Kovarik and ten students from Warren Township High School participated in “Project Sticker Shock” on Monday afternoon, April 11, 2011.

"Project Sticker Shock" is sponsored by the Illinois Liquor Control Commission's “Don't Be Sorry” campaign. Consisting of teenagers, law enforcement personnel and community leaders, these volunteers post stickers, window decals, posters, and signs to remind adults that it is illegal to provide alcohol to minors and for minors to use a fake ID. “Project Sticker Shock,” is a statewide effort.

The following volunteer students from Warren Twp. High School participated in this year’s event: Elizabeth Blasko, Zachary Drennan, Lytori King, Alexis Leneau, Sean MacLennan, Amanda Reed, Brianna Roegner, Rubecca Smith, Rachel Stemplewski and Rachel Walz. The students ranged in age from 16 to 18 years old.

The volunteers were taken to two package liquor stores in Gurnee where they placed stickers, decals and signs on product packaging and coolers. We would like to thank the owners and staff of Cardinal Wine & Spirits, 980 N. Rte. 21 and Dino’s Cardinal Liquors, 1810 Delany Rd. for their participation and cooperation in this effort to help prevent underage drinking.
