Public Works - Street Sweeping

The Village’s street sweeping contractor resumed services on Monday, April 14, 2008. Street sweeping will begin on the west side of Gurnee and will work to the east. Our major streets (Almond, Belle Plaine, Dada, Lawson, and Pinewood, to name a few) are swept twice a month May through October, and once a month in April. Our minor streets (all other municipal streets) are swept once per month April through October.

Street Sweeping provides two primary benefits to the Village. The more obvious benefit is the collection and removal of paper, leaves, road sand, and other visible debris that collect in the gutters. This debris can block storm water facilities, causing localized flooding during heavy rains. An equally important but less visible benefit is the removal of metal particles and other hazardous waste products left by passing vehicles.
