Refuse Collection

The VIllage contracts with Waste Management for refuse collection service using an automated collection system. Special containers allow for efficient collection using automated trucks.  Trash is picked up on an assigned day, once a week between the hours of  6 am and 5 pm.

Landscape Waste Collection

Collection of landscape waste has ended for 2010.
Collections will resume in April 2011.

The Village contracts Waste Management for both sticker and subscription options to collect and dispose of Landscape Waste materials. The Village requests residents to please have the landscape waste at the curb for collection on the same day as your regularly scheduled garbage pick up. All landscape waste must be placed in biodegradable Kraft paper bags/cans.

Recycling Program

The Village is excited to be at the forefront of recycling and hopes that all residents will be willing to participate in this community-wide program.

Composting

Over 14,000 Lake County residents know that "compost happens," and now it's even easier to try composting at home thanks to the Solid Waste Agency of Lake County's (SWALCO) compost bin sales program. Residents can choose from two different compost bins at locations and dates all across Lake County.

Residential Household Electronics Collection Events

Residential Household Electronics Collections are scheduled at various locations around Lake County and are for Lake County residents ONLY.

SWALCO Household Chemical Waste Collections

The Solid Waste Agency of Lake County, IL (SWALCO) Household Chemical Waste (HCW) collection program was created to help residents dispose of their chemical wastes safely and conveniently.

Local Resources: "Where Should My Stuff Go?" Guide Available from SWALCO

The Village receives frequent questions from residents about where they can take items that are not able to be thrown out or recycled through Waste Management.  Fortunately, the Solid Waste Agency of Lake County (SWALCO) has an excellent guide of local resources that can take various items that cannot be disposed of through regular methods.  Everything from aluminum to helium tanks and wine corks can be found on this list.  See the list and accompanying resources on
