Village Board - Trustee Hank Schwarz

Background

A graduate of Wauconda High School, the College of Lake County, and Aurora University, Hank Schwarz served as Military Policeman in the 82nd Airborne. Following an honorable discharge from the army, Hank returned to Illinois anad in February 1976 was hired as a Gurnee Police Department Patrol Officer. Hank married his wife, Cindi, at Gurnee Community Church in 1978. The Schwarz family has owned a number of homes in Gurnee while raising two children.

Hank has coached boy's baseball and girl's softball. He has been involved with the Boy Scout program, Gurnee Days Corporation, and the Breakfast Exchange Club of Gurnee.

In 1986, Hank became Deputy Chief of Police for the Village of Gurnee. During his tenure, Hank assumed the role of acting chief on two occasions. Hank also graduated from the FBI National Academy in 1995.

After 28 years working for the Village, Hank retired in 2004.

Hank has been involved with numerous organizations including the Illinois Chiefs of Police, 911 Board, LaCasa, Healthy Communities and Healthy Youth, DARE, and Warren Township Teen Court. He has actively participated in many fundraisers and philanthropic efforts. As his friend and neighbor for many years, Park District Commissioner Donna Kolar stated, "There is not a more dedicated, caring, and loyal servant to this community than Hank Schwarz."

 

In His Own Words

When asked what motivated him to become involved in municipal government, Hank responded, "The opportunity to continue to give back to the community."

Hank was also asked of what accomplishment he is most proud. He responded, "Being able to work with my fellow trustees to bring peace back to the Village Board." Finally, Hank was asked to share a piece of advice with Gurnee residents. "Always do your best to make someone else look and feel good."
