Pay / Benefits: anticipated hiring range $29.53 - $33.22 / hour, which may be adjusted based on experience and qualifications; full time union position; benefits include paid health / dental insurance; paid life insurance; paid time off; IMRF retirement pension (out of state pension credit may be available); clothing allowance.
This position assists with the operation and maintenance of the Village of Gurnee utility (water, wastewater, and storm water) systems.
Performs a variety of tasks in the maintenance, repair, operation and construction of Village water distribution system, sanitary and storm sewer conveyance systems, and other public infrastructure; routine water sampling and testing; meter reading and installations; hydrant flushing, hydrant repairs, and lift station maintenance; performs J.U.L.I.E utility locates; main valve and PRV operation and repairs in confined space environments; performs preventative maintenance of water and sewage pumps, motors, generators and other mechanical / electrical equipment; snow and ice control; and other seasonal responsibilities; leads crews; operates a variety of tools and equipment; specific work assignments are provided on a daily basis.Schedule: Work hours generally 7:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Monday through Friday; additional work hours will be required including overtime, rotating weekly on-call status, and 24 hour emergency call out on nights, weekends, and holidays. Must be able to meet attendance and work schedule, including overtime requirements.
Minimum / Desirable Qualifications at Time of Application:
Valid Class B CDL with air brake endorsement required. Class A with air brake and tanker endorsement preferred; must upgrade to Class A and obtain required endorsements within six (6) months of hire as a condition of employment.
Illinois Class C Water Operator Certificate preferred or OIT; non-Illinois certifications may be considered if equivalent to Illinois requirements.
Cross Connection Control Device Inspector desirable
SCADA and asset management system experience desirable
High school diploma / equivalent required. Additional specialized or technical training as obtained through an accredited technical college or career training institute desirable.
At least 4+ years’ comparable municipal utility experience; heavy equipment operation experience (such as backhoe and endloader)
