IT Network Administrator
Requirements:
The Village of Gurnee is seeking a Network Administrator to join our team in the Information Technology Division. The Network Administrator can expect to work closely with Village departments (Police, Fire, 9-1-1 PSAP, Public Works, Finance, Administration, and Engineering/Community Development - approximately 250 end users) as well as a Team of technical peers in a collaborative setting.

Position tasks will include, but are not limited to:
- Apply best practice concepts in TCP/IP, VLANs and trunking, routing protocols, and access-lists in administration and maintenance of LAN, WAN, firewalls, internet services, and VPN infrastructure
- Configures and installs switches, routers, WiFi Access points, firewalls; configures and installs VPN hardware and software solutions; replaces and configures hardware components; configures and maintains network servers
- Configure, maintain and troubleshoot various infrastructure and end user equipment
- Assist in the maintenance and connectivity needs for Village business applications. Including but not limited to ERP, CAD, CRM, GIS and RMS systems
- Performs a wide variety of administrative, skilled and technical work in procurement, installation, and use of networking, video, and telecommunications systems, including training and information on various software applications
- Perform maintenance, updating, backup and trouble-shooting of network infrastructure and end user devices, including related connectivity and network access issues
- Configures and maintains various infrastructure and end user equipment, insuring that all devices are tested and interface with the Village network
Qualification and skills:
- 3+ years’ experience as a Network Administrator with comparable responsibilities
- 3+ years’ implementing/maintaining enterprise network environments with Cisco products
- Strong understanding of LAN, WAN, VoIP and routing technologies such as 802.1q, VLAN, EIGRP, BGP, VPN (L2L, SSL, GRE), HSRP/GLBP, multicast and QoS
- Familiarity with wireless networking technologies, 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax and non-802.11 point-to-point connectivity
- Ability to use CLI (command line interface) and/or scripting to automate and create repeatable processes
- Understanding of RADIUS and Network Admission Control (NAC) concepts
- Working knowledge of physical cabling standards ANSI, EIA/TIA, IEEE
- Experience with system monitoring platforms and proactive network monitoring
Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Information Technology or closely related curriculum. 3+ years’ progressive experience in application administration and system support. Other combinations of education / experience that demonstrate the ability to perform the job functions may be considered. Proficiency in network communication and management protocols, as well as scripting is desirable. Experience in a Municipal environment desirable. A valid Driver’s License is required.
Salary Range: This position starts at $88,000 - $104,538 + DOQ, with top salary potential of $109,750, plus a generous benefit package including health, dental, and vision benefits, employer-paid life insurance and other ancillary benefit options. Retirement benefits through the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF), along with the option to participate in a 457(b) deferred compensation plan. The Network Administrator position is an exempt, non-union position.
Work Schedule: Full-time, on-site position: 40 hours per week - general business hours between 7:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday with some flexibility in work hours and paid time off - vacation, sick time, paid holidays, personal time.
