Systems Administrator - Information Systems Division

Summary:

The Village of Gurnee Information Systems Division seeks candidates for the position of Systems Administrator.

Requirements:

Qualified candidates will have a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Information Systems or closely related curriculum along with 3+ years’ experience in application administration and system support.  Public safety or public sector information systems experience desirable.  Must be eligible to work with Criminal Justice Information, and pass a background check.

General Responsibilities

This is mid-level, professional position actively involved with design, implementation, administration, security, and support for Village enterprise software systems, including providing technical support and assistance to approximately 250 end users. Position provides support to all Village operations (Police, Fire, 9-1-1, Public Works, Finance, Administration, and Engineering/Community Development).

Manage both on premise and cloud based applications. Duties include account management, troubleshooting, software patching / upgrades, log collection & monitoring, communicating with 3rd party support/vendors, and report development and customization.

Broad based involvement in enterprise applications as well as focused department specific solutions.  Applications are deployed on desktop, laptop, tablet and mobile devices.  Standardized environment with strong support & funding of IT projects & on-going operations from management.

Position offers the ability to work independently and as part of a team with established co-workers in a supportive & collaborative structure.  Includes opportunities for learning and knowledge sharing with co-workers.

The ideal candidate will be adaptable to a busy work environment with frequent interruptions.  May be offered or requested to work overtime based on operational needs or in response to callouts before / after standard scheduled hours of work on an as needed basis.

Current environment: established virtualized environment (VMware/Veeam), strong existing network infrastructure & unified communications (Cisco/Jabber), standardized hardware (HP/HPE), capable SAN solution (Nimble), monitoring (WhatsUp/Cisco PI); modern ERP system (Tyler MUNIS); mobile routing & VPN (AnyConnect / Netmotion / Sierra Wireless).

Projects on the horizon include: new public safety CAD/RMS solution; replace/enhance centralized logging/SIEM solution; significant revamp of incumbent SCADA solution; new managed file transfer solution; implement/supplement multi-factor authentication; new MDM solution; migration of legacy email solution (GroupWise).

Pay Range:

Anticipated hiring salary range $72,120 - $83,500 annually DOQ/E plus a comprehensive benefits package.  Interested and qualified candidates should complete the Application for Employment (download pdf).
