Systems Administrator - Information Systems Division (2021)



The Village of Gurnee Information Systems Division seeks motivated, thoughtful candidates who are looking for new opportunities for the position of Systems Administrator.  This is a mid-level, professional position. This position is actively involved with design, implementation, administration, security, and support for Village enterprise software systems.  Position works cooperatively with all Village operations (Police, Fire, 9-1-1 PSAP, Public Works, Finance, Administration, and Engineering/Community Development), approximately 250 end users.

Duties include: system and account management; software troubleshooting; on premises and cloud-based application deployment / upgrades / patching; log collection / monitoring; documentation; coordinating with 3rd party support / vendors, report development / customization; and providing second level technical support assistance as needed. On premise applications are hosted in Windows or Linux primarily on virtual systems, deployed to managed desktop, laptop, tablet, and mobile devices.

Opportunity to work with tenured and knowledgeable technical peers in a collaborative group.  Co-workers have long-standing relationships with staff throughout the organization.  Division has historically received consistent funding support for planned projects.  Village maps project expenditures with a multi-year financial plan including technology initiatives.

Planned projects include: new public safety CAD/RMS solution; replace centralized logging/SIEM solution; revamp of incumbent SCADA solution; new managed file transfer solution; expand use of multi-factor authentication; replace existing MDM solution; migration of legacy email solution.

Qualified candidates will have a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Information Technology or closely related curriculum along with 3+ years’ progressive experience in application administration and system support. Proficiency in Network communication and management protocols, as well as scripting is desirable. Public safety or public sector information technology experience desirable.  Must be able / eligible to work with Criminal Justice Information and pass a background check.

Current environment: well established virtualized environment (VMware/Veeam), robust existing network infrastructure & unified communications (Cisco), standardized hardware (HP/HPE), capable SAN solution (HPE/Nimble), long standing GIS environment (ESRI); monitoring (WhatsUp/Cisco PI); modern ERP system (Tyler MUNIS); mobile routing & VPN (AnyConnect / Netmotion / Sierra Wireless); mobile devices (iOS). 

Pay Range:
