Utility Locator - Part Time - Gurnee Public Works

Summary:

The Gurnee Utility Division is accepting applications for a part time Utility Locator.

This position performs underground J.U.L.I.E locate requests for fiber communication lines, electric power lines, water mains and services up to bbox, storm sewer mains and sanitary sewer mains and service stubs.  Performs other administrative duties as necessary.

Position requires extensive knowledge of electronic detection equipment (Vivax, Radio Detection).  Ability to work independently.  Ability to prioritize work load efficiently and timely completion of work in response to emergency locates is critical.  Solid customer service skills.  Prior locating experience strongly preferred.  Skills and ability to utilize appropriate software (Cityworks) to document completion of tickets and receive new tickets.  MicroStation and AutoCAD experience.

1 to 3+ years’ experience in similar position or performing comparable work (surveying, locating, etc.)

Other combinations of education and experience which provide the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform this job may be considered.  

Valid Driver’s license with safe driving history.

High school diploma / equivalent required. 

Pay Range:

$26.15 / hour.  Pension (IMRF) participation; pro-rated holiday pay and personal time; union position - Local 150 Operating Engineers.

Schedule:  Generally 20 hours per week during regular Public Works operational hours of 7:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Monday through Friday; year round position.
