Community Development Department


The Department of Community Development is concerned with physical planning, infrastructure construction, and the safety of structures and grounds in the Village.  While the Community Development Department deals with the physical aspects of the community, it also works extensively with elected and appointed officials, property owners, contractors, and citizens to provide a high level of customer service.
 

The Community Development Department has four divisions:
 

  • Building Safety Division: Oversees building construction, code enforcement, and the inspections of specialized facilities such as elevators. Building Inspection, Building Permits, Site Plan Processing
  • Engineering Division: Guides the construction and management of public infrastructure such as streets, drainage facilities, water lines, and sewer lines. Transportation Planning, Sidewalk and Bike Path Construction, Village Surveying and Mapping, Traffic Signals, GIS, Capital Improvement Program

  • Planning & Zoning Division: Manages the physical growth and development of the Village. Annexation, Development Review, Planned Unit Developments (PUD), Special Use Permit, Variation, Zoning Amendment, Land Use Planning, Zoning/Setbacks

  • Property Maintenance Division: Ensures that structures and exterior property areas are maintained in a clean, safe, and secure manner and enforces Sign Ordinance, Nuisance Ordinance, and Property Maintenance Codes. Code Enforcement
