Building Permit Application for Minor Residential/Commercial Alterations

Please download the following Building Permit Application for renovations including decks and patios, fences, basement finishes, pools/hot tubs, sheds, gazebos, re-roofs/siding, air conditioners/furnaces/water heaters, miscellaneous repair alterations, and commercial/move-in only/occupancy/minor tenant finishes.

Below are preliminary instructions to give you an idea of what materials you will need to submit with your application form. Note: This is not a comprehensive list of requirements; please click the link for each alteration to receive a full list of what is required.

Decks

  1. Include plat of survey. Draw in placement of deck or patio with dimensions.
  2. Sign and submit deck requirements sheet.
  3. Include a plan that shows deck construction.

Patios

  1. Include plat of survey. Draw in placement of the patio with dimensions.

Fences

  1. Include plat of survey. Highlight the location of the fence.
  2. Submit a copy of the proposal with specifications from the contractor.

Basement Finishes

  1. Include a list of all pertinent contractors.
  2. Include layout of entire basement showing location of stairs, existing windows, furnace and mechanicals, location of electrical (show outlets aand switches, supplies and returns for HVAC, any new walls and doors, and plumbing.

Pools/Hot Tubs

  1. Include plat of survey, showing location of the proposed pool or tub, distance from pool or tub to adjacent lot lines, house, and easements. Also indicate the locations of underground or overhead wiring and their distance from pool or tub, as well as type and location of approved barrier.
  2. Provide an information sheet for the pool that is proposed for installation.
  3. Provide information for the filter pump.
  4. Provide a detailed written proposal from your electrical contractor stating the scope of work to be provided.

Sheds

  1. Include plat of survey. Indicate where the shed is to be located.
  2. Include a plan/drawing of the structure, indicating foundation and framing of structure.

Gazebos

  1. Include plat of survey. Indicate where the gazebo is to be located.
  2. If gazebo is detached, submit a drawing showing foundation, framing, etc. If gazebo is attached (even by a deck), Illinois Architecture stamped plans must be submitted depicting construction.

Re-roof and Siding

  1. Include a copy of the proposal from the contractor.
  2. Not more than one layer of asphalt or fiberglass shingles shall be applied over an existing asphalt or fiberglass shingle roof; asphalt or fiberglass shingles shall not be applied over existing wood shingles or shakes. No second layer of wood shingles or shakes is permitted.
  3. Asbestos - cement shingles are prohibited.

Air Conditioners, Furnaces, and Water Heaters

  1. A/C Replacement: Include a copy of proposal from the contractor.
  2. Furnace Replacement: Include copy of proposal from the contractor. See above for humidifiers.
  3. Water Heater: Include information on type of water heater being installed. Include name of licensed plumber (must be registered with the Village prior to release of the permit).

Miscellaneous Repair Alterations
