The fire department currently protects approximately 60,000 people in a 30 square mile area, with a daytime population in excess of 150,000. Areas protected by the fire department are divided between the Village and Fire Protection District, as well as the City of Park City, Illinois.

Weather & Disaster Preparedness


The Village of Gurnee has established an Emergency Management Agency to coordinate preparedness, relief, response, and recovery activities for all emergency or disaster situations within the Village. The program has an Emergency Management Agency Coordinator, appointed by the Village Administrator with the approval of the Mayor and Village Board, who meets the program standards and requirements as established by the Illinois Emergency Management Agency Act.

GURNEE, IL – The Gurnee Fire Department Awards Task Force recently convened to review the nomination for the Gurnee Fire Employee of the Year for the Exchange Club of Gurnee. The Awards Task Force is pleased to announce that Fire Fighter Bill Heuer has been selected as the 2015 Gurnee Fire Employee of the Year.

Gurnee Police and Firefighter Charity Golf Outing

The Gurnee Fire Department's Local 3598 and the Police Department's FOP 266 are teaming up to start an annual charity golf outing on Friday, September 9th, 2016 at Bittersweet Golf Course (875 Almond Road, Gurnee, IL 60031).  It will be a best ball, scramble format outing starting at 10 am.  The goal of this outing is to bring the different departments of the Village together for a day of fun, while at the same time raising money for charity.

Fire Safety Expo 2016: Saturday, May 14th

On Saturday, May 14th, the Gurnee Fire Department will be participating in Fire/Safety Expo 2016, presented by the Lake County Fire Chief's Association. The event will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in Parking Lot E (near Value City Furniture) at Gurnee Mills.  Admission is free!

Halloween: 2016 Trick-or-Treating on Sunday, October 30th from 2:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Trick-or-treating in the Village of Gurnee will be held on Sunday, October 30th from 2pm-5pm. 

The Village also asks that you be respectful of your neighbors while trick-or-treating--go only to homes of people you know. If you have questions regarding trick-or-treating hours, please contact the Village of Gurnee Police Department at (847) 599-7000.
