[Gurnee, IL] – The Police Officer of the Year and Civilian Employee of the Year for 2012 will be honored on Sunday, September 8, 2013 at the September 11th Remembrance Ceremony, beginning at 1:00 PM at Viking Park, 4374 Old Grand Ave, Gurnee.
Each year, two committees made up of rank and file members of the police department, meet to review award nominations that are submitted by fellow employees and supervisors. The committees then select the recipient of the awards.
The recipient of the 2012 Police Officer of the Year award is Detective Traci Pugliese. Detective Pugliese has served as a Gurnee Police Officer since February 2006 and as a detective with the Investigations Unit since June 2011. Detective Pugliese specializes as a Juvenile Officer, Bike Officer, Evidence Technician, Photo Enforcement Officer, ATV Operator and as an instructor for the Gurnee Citizen Police Academy.
Detective Pugliese specializes in investigating residential burglaries. She developed a tracking system to cross reference locations, times, methods of entry and items taken. She also ensures that all victims of residential burglaries are informed and updated on the progress of investigations.
Traci is an extremely energetic and proactive police officer. She always displays a positive attitude and is always willing to assist anyone.
Community Service Officer Meghan Hafeman has been selected as the 2012 Civilian Employee of the Year. She has been an employee since March of 2001. Meghan regularly helps out in the records department and in Administration in addition to her Community Service Officer duties. Regardless of how busy she may be with her regular assignments, she’s always willing to help and maintains a positive attitude. She frequently adjusts her work schedule to assist fellow employees when needed.
Detective Pugliese and CSO Hafeman will be presented with plaques by Police Chief Kevin Woodside to commemorate the award at the September 11th Remembrance Ceremony.
