NSWRD / Lake County Public Works Sewage Usage Fee

The North Shore Water Reclamation District’s (NSWRD) sanitary sewer rates for Gurnee residents west of I-94 increased on November 1, 2015. This increase was the result of a renegotiated contract for service between NSWRD and Lake County Public Works providing sewer treatment services as part of a 10-year agreement extension. The increase primarily comes from a base fee of $3.37 per 1,000 gallons of sewage for “property tax, transportation, and retroactive charges” levied by Lake County Public Works. Additionally, NSWRD charges users a flow charge based on type of use. For residential users, this fee is an additional $1.16 per 1,000 gallons. Higher intensity users will have a greater flow charge rate

This increase only affects customers in the Northeast Central Sewage System, an area that encompasses portions of Gurnee west of I-94. Residents on the east side of Gurnee already pay an additional property tax to the NSWRD and a service fee for sewage processing.

The Village of Gurnee collects the fee as part of the water billing process, but passes the fee on directly to the NSWRD and Lake County Public Works.

For questions on the fee or the impacted area, please contact the NSWRD (847-623-6060) or Lake County Public Works (847-377-7500).
