Gurnee Police Deputy Chief Retiring

Gurnee, IL – After a 25 year career with the Village of Gurnee Police Department, Deputy Chief Saundra Campbell is retiring effective January 6th, 2018.

Deputy Chief Campbell started her career in July 1992. After graduating from the State Police Academy, she was assigned to the patrol division. In 1996, she was assigned to investigations, and promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 1999. In 2011, she was promoted to the rank of Commander in the patrol division. In 2014, she was promoted to Deputy Chief overseeing patrol and investigations operations. In 2016 she became Deputy Chief of support services.

In addition to her service to the police department, Deputy Chief Campbell is very active in the community. She currently serves as Vice-President of the Board of Directors at the Zacharias Sexual Abuse Center in Gurnee and for many years as a volunteer domestic violence victim advocate for A Safe Place.

Although she has no solid plans for her future, Saundra plans to remain in Gurnee and spend more time pursuing one of her deepest passions, golf.

“The department is losing an enormously talented police officer and leader. We wish her a long and healthy retirement. Her leadership and daily influence in the police department is going to be missed.” - Chief Kevin Woodside

In lieu of any gifts, Deputy Chief Campbell asks that children’s books be donated to Bernie’s Book Bank. Bernie’s Book Bank sources, processes and distributes quality children’s books to significantly increase book ownership among at-risk infants, toddlers and school-age children throughout Chicagoland.
