Summer Landscape / Maintenance Worker - Public Works

The Village of Gurnee Public Works Department seeks candidates for the position of Summer Landscape / Maintenance Worker.  Duration of position is approximately from mid-May to mid-August depending on school schedule, with possible additional work opportunities over school breaks.

Employees in this position perform landscaping and general maintenance projects.  Works in the Forestry division of Public Works assisting with landscape maintenance by mowing, watering, weeding, raking, planting, and providing general landscaping maintenance in Village right-of-ways and other locations; performing general maintenance tasks when requested; and performing related job tasks and duties as requested or required.

Requires previous work experience that demonstrates ability to work with others as part of a team and independently; customer service experience.  Knowledge of general maintenance, construction, and landscaping techniques and standards; ability to perform work requiring moderate physical demands and sustained physical activity; work in a field work environment, outdoors in all types of weather and be subject to hazards such as traffic and other environmental exposures.

Must have a valid driver’s license, safe driving record, and be at least 18 years of age. 

Starting hourly rate of pay is $10.00 / hour.  Work schedule is generally 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.  Offer of employment is contingent on passing a background investigation and drug screen.
