The Public Works Department’s Street Division is responsible for streets, right-of-way maintenance, building maintenance, forestry and landscape maintenance, traffic control signs, street lighting, storm sewer and detention systems, and vehicle maintenance. During the winter season the Street Division is responsible for snow and ice control operations for over 243 lane miles of roads including 328 cul-de-sacs and dead end streets.
The Street Division assists the Engineering Division during projects involving Motor Fuel Tax (MFT) funds by repairing, installing, or relocating catch basins, storm sewer, drain tiles, parkway trees, sidewalks, and culverts. The Division also assists Fire, Police, and Administration Departments with building maintenance and repairs while still maintaining the Public Works facilities.
Sidewalk / Curb Maintenance
Public Works conducts repair and replacement of the Village’s sidewalks and curb sections that are designated as unsafe or hazardous situations. Large or numerous cracks, settlements, heaved or displaced sections, and areas that hold water for more than 48 hours after a rainfall are typical conditions that may trigger a repair.
