Incident Press Release - Building Fire at 545 Gillings Drive in Gurnee

GURNEE, IL – On October 1st at 7:47pm, the Gurnee Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 545 Gillings Drive. The third floor and roof of the 8-unit apartment building was found to be engulfed in flames. The Gurnee Fire Department arrived on scene within three-minutes of the dispatched call, and the fire was under control within 20 minutes. Since this was a box-level alarm, firefighters from Newport, Waukegan, Lake Villa, Mundelein, Zion, Libertyville, Grayslake, Fox Lake, Round Lake, Long Grove, and Lincolnshire- Riverwoods came out to assist and provide ambulance coverage for Gurnee during the incident.

The building was noted to have working smoke alarms at the time of the fire. All residents, with the exception of one cat, evacuated without injuries. All residents have been relocated. 

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
