Village of Gurnee Reuse-A-Shoe Collection
The Village of Gurnee has partnered with SWALCO to begin a year-round Reuse-A-Shoe collection. The Reuse-A-Shoe program collects unwanted shoes for reuse and recycling. An estimated 85% or more of unwanted shoes end up in landfills. The Reuse-A-Shoe program can recycle or reuse 95% or more of the materials from collected shoes. All types, sizes and brands of footwear are accepted, including:
- Dress shoes
- Casual shoes
- Work shoes/boots
- Sandals
- Athletic shoes
- Slippers and slip-ons
- Crocs
- Boots (except winter boots)
- Light-up shoes and cleats
- NOT ACCEPTED: Ice skates, rollerblades, winter boots, moldy shoes or badly damaged shoes in pieces/missing soles
There village's collection location is: Village Hall (325 N. O'Plaine Road, inside the entry doors) and is open typically from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Please make sure to keep shoes in pairs by tying them together, rubber banding or bagging together. For more information on the program and a list of accepted items, please see the SWALCO website.
