Village Board - Trustee Cheryl Ross
Term Ends April 30, 2027
Background
Village Trustee Cheryl Ross was elected to the Board of Trustees in May 2007. Cheryl has been a Gurnee resident her entire life and is retired after teaching for 35 years at Woodland Elementary. “I have enjoyed my experience as a Village Trustee, especially working with our excellent staff. In additional to Trustee duties, I serve as the Village representative to the Visit Lake County Board, which gives me a perspective on tourism and business throughout the county.” In her free time, Cheryl enjoys baking and trying out new recipes, as well as spending time with family and friends.
Cheryl is proud of her family and children. Her husband, Dave, is retired from CLC after working as a counselor for 35 years. Her daughter, Laura, has a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Northwestern University and works as a Physical Therapist in Decatur, GA. Her son, Michael, has a Master’s degree from Northwestern University, and is teaching band at a school in Hong Kong. Her daughter, Amy, graduated from Carthage College, lives in Kenosha, and works as a photographer and freelance artist.
In Her Own Words
When asked what motivated her to become involved in municipal government, Cheryl responded, "I love Gurnee and the people who live here. My dad was Mayor in the 50's, 60's, and early 70s which began my interest in Village affairs. When I was in college, I worked at the Village office. I remember working on an early building code and zoning map, sending out water bills, and collecting money at the counter at the old Village Hall on Old Grand Avenue. Prior to being on the Village Board, I was appointed to the Plan Commission by Dick Welton and served for eight years, which was an excellent preparation to serve as a Trustee."
