Construction Update: Old Grand Watermain Construction Begins Oct. 27th

Project Description
Old Grand Avenue is one of the oldest roads in Gurnee. Underneath the roadway are miles of original water main that continue to deteriorate. The Old Grand Avenue watermain is an aging cast iron water main that is prone to breaking. Replacement of this main is being done in multiple phases to minimize traffic impacts on Old Grand Avenue and keep access to Viking Middle School and other businesses as non-invasive as possible. Phase I was completed in summer of 2020 and included replacement of the main from Ferndale Street to First Street. Phase 2 entails directionally drilling under the Canadian Pacific Railroad and installing watermain from First Street to Fire Station #1 along Old Grand Avenue.

 Project Update
Joel Kennedy Construction will begin construction activity on Old Grand Avenue on Wednesday, October 27th. The first step in the construction project will include pot holing utilities. During construction, there will be temporary lane closures and access will be closed to all but local traffic. Access to Viking Middle School, Viking Park, homes and local businesses will remain open throughout the project. Detours will be posted for thru traffic.
