As of 3:00 p.m. today, Wednesday, April 15, the Des Plaines River was at a level of 7.86 feet and rising according to reporting information provided by the National Weather Service. As of 9:34 a.m. this morning, the National Weather Service predicted the river to crest at 10.5 feet during the early evening hours of Thursday, April 16. The river is currently rising at a rate less than the National Weather Service’s most recent prediction. If the river reaches 10.5 feet, Emerald Avenue, Old Grand Avenue and McClure Avenue are expected to be fully closed. Based on current modeling, water is also expected to impact the outside lanes of Grand Avenue tomorrow morning, Thursday, April 16. Kilbourne Road just north of Emerald Avenue, the west end of McClure Avenue and the west end of Old Grand Avenue may also be fully closed to traffic. Public Works has available sand and bags for residents and businesses that wish to make sandbags. At this time, the Village simply wants to make residents and businesses in the area aware of the situation should they decide to take precautionary measures. The Village does not see an immediate need to leave the area. Village staff will monitor the situation overnight and meet tomorrow morning to assess the river level and determine how to proceed forward.
LRS will provide free unlimited yard waste collection for residents who do not pay an HOA for service during the weeks beginning April 20 and April 27. Yard waste must be placed at the curb by 6 a.m. on your pickup day and set out in kraft paper bags, rigid cans, or bundled brush that meets size and weight limits.
