Ethylene Oxide Update #42: March 19, 2021

HB2385 – Introduced February 17, 2021 – Representative Mason

Representative Joyce Mason introduced legislation in the 102nd General Assembly amending the Environmental Protection Act as it relates to ethylene oxide. The proposed legislation requires the Illinois Environmental Agency to conduct continuous monitoring, using air canisters, of ethylene oxide at any facility emitting ethylene oxide in a densely-populated area. Provides that the Agency shall publicly post the results of the monitoring on its website within 30 days after each sample is taken. Requires the Agency to establish fence line monitoring of ethylene oxide limits at 0.02 micrograms per cubic meter. Provides specified civil penalties for emitting facilities with different specified annual revenues. Contains other provisions.

The legislation has been assigned to the Energy & Environment Committee.  The Energy & Environment Committee has a hearing scheduled for March 22, 2021 at 4:00pm.  HB2385 has been posted to this hearing.  Residents interested in filing a Witness Slip indicating their position on this proposed piece of legislation are encouraged to do so by March 22nd, 2021 at 4:00 p.m. at:
