FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Gurnee Announces Community Event Cancellations Through August 2020

GURNEE, IL – For the safety and well-being of residents and visitors of Gurnee, events hosted by the Village of Gurnee and Gurnee Park District have been canceled through August 2020. This includes Gurnee Days, Families on the Fairway, the Legions of Craft Beer Fest and the East Grand Farmers & Artisans Market.

These decisions were determined by Village of Gurnee and Gurnee Park District officials based on the advice of public health officials and the social distancing requirements of Phase 3 of Governor Pritzker’s Restore Illinois Plan. This was not an easy decision to make or one that was made lightly. Our community looks forward to and has many traditions surrounding these events. We are hopeful that we can offer these events next summer. Canceling Gurnee Days and other summer events is a decision that needed to be made now, before costs were incurred with no clear time-frame for when the state might reach Phase 5 (which allows for large events and festivals).

Families on the Fairway is an annual event in late June at Bittersweet Golf Course.

Gurnee Days was scheduled to occur from Thursday, August 6th through Sunday, August 9th. This year would have been the 48th year of celebrating Gurnee Days.

The Legions of Craft Beer Fest’s 2020 date had not yet been announced, but was planned to be in late summer. The event started in 2015 as a fundraiser for Lake County area veterans.

The East Grand Farmers & Artisans Market started in 2018 as a draw to the local businesses east of US-41. The series of monthly markets drew in hundreds of visitors and featured a wide variety of vendors, farmers, and other artisan makers for a family-friendly event.

Additional information on the event cancellations and the announcement of future event dates will be posted to the Gurnee Park District website at www.gurneeparkdistrict.com, Village of Gurnee website at www.gurnee.il.us and Gurnee Days website at www.gurneedays.com.
