Ethylene Oxide Update #53: November 2, 2022

Ethylene Oxide Update #53: November 2, 2022: Quarter 3 stack monitoring and fugitive emissions results received by IEPA; Vantage within permitted emission cap.

The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA) has updated its website to include the Q3 data related to Vantage’s permit. Public Act 101-0023. Vantage’s Construction Permit limits the facility to 110 pounds of emissions annually of which no more than 60 pounds can be fugitive emissions. The results indicate Vantage has released 38.21 pounds (34.74% of permitted annual total) of EtO cumulatively year-to-date, of which 19.56 pounds (32.61% of permitted annual total) were fugitive emissions.

The submission noted “On July 26, 2022 daily calibrations of the CEMS did not occur because of a malfunction to the laser in the analyzer…..The analyzer was serviced on July 27 to reapply the laser adhesive and the daily calibrations were passed later that day and have been conducted daily during the rest of the quarter.” The submission also noted, “There were no leaking components in all of Q3 2022.”
