Ethylene Oxide Update #54: February 23, 2023

In this update includes:

  • Quarter 4 stack monitoring and fugitive emissions results received by IEPA
  • Vantage finishes 2022 at 47.81 pounds released.
  • 56.53% under IEPA permitted annual emissions

The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA) has updated its website to include the 2022 Q4 data related to Vantage’s permit. The results indicate Vantage concluded 2022 at 47.81 pounds (43.46% of permitted annual total) of ethylene oxide (EtO) emissions, of which 25.76 pounds (42.94% of permitted annual total) were fugitive emissions.  In 2020 the total amount released was 62.44lbs, in 2021 the total amount released was 21.18lbs.  Public Act 101-0023 and Vantage’s Construction Permit limit the facility to 110 pounds of emissions annually of which no more than 60 pounds can be fugitive emissions.

The submission noted two deviations from the construction permit related to monitoring on December 11/12 and December 12/13.  Greater detail regarding the deviations can be read in the fourth quarter online report. Monitoring is conducted by Montrose Air Quality Services (https://montrose-env.com).

The fourth quarter report is available on the IEPA website here: https://www2.illinois.gov/epa/topics/community-relations/sites/ethylene-oxide/Documents/Vantage%20Const%20Permit%20Q4%202022%20Report.pdf
