Medal of Honor Recipient Allen J Lynch recognized at Village Board Meeting

On Monday, November 3, a ceremony was held at the Gurnee Village Board Meeting to honor Vietnam War Veteran Allen J. Lynch by declaring November 3rd "Allen J. Lynch Day." The event, led by Mayor Hood, recognized Lynch's extraordinary bravery during a 1967 battle in which he saved fellow wounded soldiers and held his position alone for many hours, earning him the Medal of Honor. The celebration also acknowledged his post-war service to veterans through his work with the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Allen J. Lynch Foundation. The ceremony concluded with the presentation of a proclamation and a bronze plaque to be placed at the Veterans Memorial, serving as a permanent tribute to his heroism. Special thanks to the American Legion Post Commander, Jim Walsh, and Illinois State Representative Joyce Mason for speaking at this event.
