NSWRD / Lake County Public Works Sewage Usage Fee

Beginning November 1, 2015, the North Shore Water Reclamation District’s (NSWRD) sewer rates for Gurnee residents west of I-94 increased. This increase is a combination of the NSWRD and Lake County Public Works (LCPW) adjusting rates for sewer connection as part of a 10-year rate schedule.

As of December 1, 2025, the Lake County Public Works (LCPW) sewer rates for Gurnee residents will increase from $7.00 to $7.17 per 1,000 gallons of sewage for single family residential properties. This rate is a combination of North Shore Water Reclamation District (NSWRD) and LCPW wastewater treatment charges. For residential users, the NSWRD fee will remain the same at $2.74 per 1,000 gallons. LCPW’s fee for “property tax, transportation, and retroactive charges” will increase from $4.26 to $4.43 per 1,000 gallons of sewage. Higher intensity users will have a greater flow charge rate.

This increase only affects customers in the Northeast Central Sewage System, an area that encompasses portions of Gurnee west of I-94. Residents on the east side of Gurnee already pay an additional property tax to the NSWRD and a service fee for sewage processing.

The Village of Gurnee collects the fee as part of the water billing process, but passes the fee on directly to the NSWRD and Lake County Public Works.
