Top Stories of 2019: #1 Construction Nears Completion on the Knowles Road Water Tower

Long before the removal of the 200,000 gallon Old Grand Water Tower in 2018, plans were underway for the construction of a 2,000,000 gallon water tower on a vacant parcel owned by the Village on Knowles Road just south of Rollins Road. Funded primarily through a low interest loan and cash on hand, the Knowles Road Tower will increase overall storage capacity of the Village’s water system from six million gallons up to eight million gallons. Additionally, the new tower will increase water pressure for customers on the western limits of Gurnee from 30-50 pounds per square inch (PSI) up closer to the average community-wide pressure between 70-80 PSI. Crews dug the foundation beginning in the early 2019 and steel deliveries began in March. The construction crew is on the last steps of installing the water main pipe and performing electrical and mechanical work. Painting of the water tower has been delayed due to weather conditions and is expected to finish spring of 2020.
