GURNEE, IL – Volunteers in Gurnee have come together to organize "Keep Gurnee Clean", a group dedicated to maintaining the cleanliness of the Village's trail system. For the inaugural Litter Pickup Event, teams will meet on Saturday, September 23rd at one of the four trail heads in Gurnee starting at 9:00 a.m.
The Village of Gurnee maintains four trail systems:

  • Boulevard View Trail
  • Commonwealth Edison East Trail
  • Commonwealth Edison West Trail
  • Swanson & Trigg Trail

Keep Gurnee Clean was created by Emily Kellogg, a senior student at Warren Township High School. The Village of Gurnee has partnered with Emily and Keep Gurnee Clean to develop a formal adopt-a-trail plan to assist the Village with litter cleanup of the trails.
“I formed Keep Gurnee Clean because my family loves walking the trail in our neighborhood and this spring we couldn't believe how much trash we saw. Because I’ve grown up following the motto “Leave No Trace”, it was very disappointing to see all of the bottles, cans and plastic bags along the trail. This made me realize that I had to start an anti-litter campaign for my Girl Scout Gold Award Project.” said Kellogg. “My goal with Keep Gurnee Clean is to encourage people to think before they litter and pick up the litter they see instead of walking past it. I want to show people that 1 person can make a difference in their community.”
Interested volunteers will meet at one of the four trail heads in Gurnee. Volunteers can find more information and a link to register for the cleanup by visiting the Village of Gurnee website:
