Electrical Inspector - June 2025

The Electrical Inspector is responsible for inspecting electrical installations and ensuring compliance with applicable codes, ordinances, and safety standards. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual with experience who is looking to contribute to the safety and well-being of our community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform inspections of new and existing electrical installations in residential, commercial, and public buildings
  • Ensure compliance with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and the International Code Council (ICC) local ordinances, and safety standards
  • Review permit applications, plans, and specifications for code compliance
  • Prepare clear and accurate inspection reports and maintain records using the Villages software
  • Work with contractors, property owners, and other Village departments to resolve code issues
  • Respond to inquiries and complaints regarding electrical systems and safety
  • Stay updated on changes to electrical codes and best practices

The Salary range: $74,716.20-102,253.84 annually (+/- DOQ): The hiring rate will be based on specific education, experience, and certifications. A generous benefit package includes employer paid health, dental, vision and life insurance. Retirement benefits through the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF) and the option to participate in a 457(b) deferred compensation plan. Paid time off and tuition reimbursement assistance.

Work Schedule: This is a full-time, 40-hour per week, hourly position.  Work hours are Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM.

Working Conditions:

  • Fieldwork with exposure to construction environments
  • Occasional work in confined spaces and at various heights

Education/Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Minimum of 2-5 years of experience in electrical work, electrical inspection, or a related field
  • Valid electrical license or certification preferred
  • Knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and the International Code Council (ICC) and local building codes
  • Ability to read and interpret plans, blueprints, and technical drawings
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Basic computer skills for report writing and recordkeeping
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Certification as an Electrical Inspector or ability to obtain within 1 year
  • Prior experience in municipal or governmental inspections is preferred
