2020 Civil Engineering Internship Opportunity

The Village of Gurnee Community Development Department / Engineering Division seeks candidates for a summer Civil Engineering internship.  Duration of position is approximately from mid-May to mid-August, depending on school schedule.

Employees in this position perform routine and entry level technical civil engineering work.  This position may require interaction with the general public.  Work may include conducting field surveys, basic construction inspections and investigations; collecting traffic data for traffic studies, developing and/or updating maps and related documents; general office work such as filing, scanning, data entry, and research; and related tasks.

Requires: college-level course work in civil engineering or closely related curriculum;  previous work experience that demonstrates ability to work with others as part of a team and independently; customer service experience; knowledge of general / civil engineering principles and practices; knowledge and experience in computer systems including Microsoft Office, ESRI’s ArcGIS software, and computer aided drafting (CAD) programs desirable.

Candidates must be at least minimum age 17 by first day of employment and must have a valid driver’s license and no moving violations as of date of hire. 

Starting hourly rate of pay is $13.00 / hour.     Work schedule is generally 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday but may vary based on construction project schedules. Employment is contingent on passing a background and driving check and drug screen.
